BritishSteel,whichisownedbyJingye,theChinesesteelgroup,announcedplanstocloseitstwoblastfurnacesinEngland,TheTelegraphreported.Theclosuresput2,700jobsatriskandtheendofsteelproductionintheUnitedKingdomafter150years.JingyeboughtBritishSteelin2020.
Jingyesaidthe“impositionoftariffs”hadmadetheblastfurnacesandsteel-makingoperations“nolongerfinanciallysustainable”.
